Focus Quote

The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve
- Ben Franklin

Focus Coaching Insight

In the program "Authentic Happiness Coaching" based on the book Authentic Happiness by Dr. Martin Seligman it was brought out through a research project that people lived longer more productive and rewarding lives if they had established roots in service organizations in their communities. The data verified that if you had experienced deep service to whatever cause bigger than yourself that it had a direct positive outcome on your life.

Focus Exercise

Take a look at what unique talents you have, monetary means and a passion about an issue, project a cause that you could be involved with in your community. If you have too many then focus on the ones that most meet your personal needs. One step in this direction can be the first step in having a more positive life outcome for you.

Pete's Perspective

Jeez it's been awhile since I wrote my last ezine..Over a month!!! Where does all the time go? The one service project I'm involved with is a fund raising dinner in South San Jose for the California Waterfowl Association. The great thing about this fund raiser is that it goes a few months we have the dinner and then we are done for another year.

On the business front I'm rapidly closing in on my first e-book and companion workbook on Self Marketing Yourself, the title is still in progress as well. In a blinding flash of the obvious I got real clear that many people have a hard to impossible time marketing themselves in their coaching practice, small business or even in a resume or speaking about their strengths. I was able to put together a string of insights from a number of great speakers, writers and coaches that resulted in the book. We sure are taught not to speak about our talents, god given or earned and learned in the University of Life. Don't brag about yourself, don't think your better than anyone else, who do you think you are? Well the book is about giving a path to find your own greatness and how to talk about how you can serve your audiences needs with what makes you especially prepared to meet that challenge. One thing for sure all that I have learned in the last 3 years has come together in the book.

On the personal front, its summer and wakeboarding season here on the waterways of the Delta which is one of my most favorite times. The problem is that I still have a winter coat, excess fat from the long winter we had. As a Fathers day gift my lovely wife, Mindy got me a personal trainer two days a week. It has become very clear to me with my writing of my new book that each of us goes through a process somewhere in the middle of our lives for sure by 50. Yes, that fifty hit me in February. Somewhere along the line we have defining moment, defining time or defining experience that starts us building our lives from the inside out. It has become clear that as we are born and brought up we are formed from the outside in. We are shaped by parents, family, friends, schools, a social group's and religion, all outside influences. We are who we are by building from the outside in. It is now all so clear that the issues, situations and changes in our lives cause us to rebuild or build new ourselves from the inside out. I know that is true for me. I have had to take the time to find out what gifts I have, god given and from having lived my life to this point. I had to find out what was most important to me for me. The exercise or building process is about putting me first. Boy!!! That is so foreign that writing it out is very powerful and scary. But, the reality is what good are you to yourself, put more personal what good am I to those I'm responsible for if I'm not at my best? Weight has been a struggle since I was 23. If I don't put that issue to bed now I will fight the battle forever.

My trainer/coach Greg Thurston has some insights that made me think. He asked how many obese 70-80-90 year olds do you see around. How about the older you get the fewer you see. The oldest are mostly thin. How many eat big meals? Mostly they are squirrels that eat a little run around and eat small meals every few hours. Another thing he points out is take any audience and pick out some people who range from small to large sizes. He says line them up from smallest to largest and ask them how many meals they eat a day. The little ones graze and eat every few hours 5 to 8 times a day. Progressively up the line the people eat less often until the biggest eat 2 to three times a day big meals with a lot of calories all at once. I have to say that I'm learning a lot about things I didn't know. So I'm building my life from the inside out putting myself first.

I truly believe that many of you need to look at this concept. It means taking care of yourself and being your best. Think about how effective you can be at your best for your spiritual master, your spouse/significant other, your family, your friends, your business, co workers and communities. I know as I build myself from the inside out I will have a far greater influence, energy and passion to serve those who I'm destined to serve. These are exciting times…..hugs with love Pete
