Focus Exercise
Last month I asked you to focus on the projects you hadn't completed that you intended to this year and to get them completed. If you had taken the 5 to 10 minutes then, you would have shifted your target for the end of the year to your highest priority. If you didn't make yourself #1 in that very instant, chances are the projects that do have your attention continue to derail your highest priorities. So I encourage you to put yourself as #1 in this very moment and plan the end of the year's crowning achievement. Thanksgiving will soon be upon us, and it would be a blessing to have the satisfaction that you will achieve more of your goals this year than ever before. You can then make that mad dash to the finish line as the New Year comes around. Harv says it best, "Look at your results and look back upstream to what led to your success or lack thereof in your attention and actions."
Focus Coaching Insight
I was recently working with a client, who gave her permission to share her valuable lesson. The question came up for her about following a deep soul desire that would not leave her alone. Her heart kept asking her to focus on what she had held in her wishes for 20 years but could not move forward on. We worked on not taking a huge blind leap of faith, but instead that first step that moved her attention and action toward her desire. The hardest part was we didn't know what the second step would be, and it was frightening. So we took the first step together, and then standing on that plain we looked around for and found the next step. We continue the step-by-step process, letting it unfold naturally. The biggest thrill for her is that she is moving with her soul toward that desire. And it is coming effortlessly with all the excitement and passion of a 5-year-old receiving a divine gift. Pete's Perspective
My first mentor coach told me that the world is a mirror of us. What our clients ask of themselves is what we need to ask for ourselves as well. After selling and leaving my family business, my heart's desire has been to be on stage giving speeches, seminars and retreats. I'm sure my dream had even deeper roots extending to my earlier years when I took a public speaking course in my sophomore year in High School. As I write this, it is clear to me that the first time I spoke, I was nervous with anticipation of getting in front of my classmates. I had gone mountain climbing that summer with my dad and brother in Switzerland, so my adventures became my first speech along with props. I remember so well that as I spoke with first-hand knowledge, I relived the whole climb and descent showing the actual equipment we used. In the end, it felt exciting and stimulating to share with my classmates. My life took many different turns as I worked up the levels of our family business. Once in a while I had a chance to present, speak or be the master of ceremonies for varies company functions. Looking back, that's when my heart's desire spoke to me again. In the last six years, I have been looking everywhere to re-discover where I should go, what I should do and who I should be in my next career. It's like being asked: What do you want to be when you grow up? What do I want to do with the next chapter of my life? The search has been long, exciting and adventurous in taking those steps as my client did for herself. A good friend of mine pointed out that I have always been an adventurer wanting to find out what is on top of and over the next hill. Part of my adventure is asking those I come in contact with to come along with me as we search over the hills for the next step. It may be for a mile or it may be for a lifetime, but let's share that adventure. I'm now looking for any and all opportunities to speak about how to follow your heart's desire without screwing yourself up in the process. I want to ask for your help in recommending me to any group in the greater Bay Area around San Francisco that might need or want a speaker. My first eBook "Discover Your True Value" is all about removing the self-imposed barriers of negative self-talk and building confidence in promoting yourself to be who you want to be. I'm designing my Website to sell the eBook and companion workbook. Next up is the free introductory teleclass and then I'll be rolling out the 6-week teleclass course. I'm listening to the advice Harv gave me through his 16-CD set and putting into play where my attention and energy go so I can produce my desired results. As we approach the first of the year when we make those promising New Year's Resolutions, make sure to focus on your heart's desire and give voice to your right to act on that desire to live the life you came to earth to live.
