Focus Quote
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
~ Leo Buscaglia
Focus Exercise
Take a moment to look at a mirror now and every time you have a chance in the next few weeks as the year winds down. Jack Canfield had us do this at his Breakthrough for Success seminar earlier this year. As you look in the mirror, say Hi to yourself and congratulate yourself on an accomplishment you had during the day. Then-this is the hardest part-say, "I love you for being you, for taking care of you and for getting this far in life." Yes, you may feel foolish and won't want anyone around to see this silliness, since they might think it's dumb or they may make some disparaging remark. However, I want you to give yourself the biggest holiday gift you could ever receive-your own recognition that you are a divine spiritual being having human experiences and that you are LOVE. Giving and receiving the gift of love is all there is. The holiday season is all about giving and receiving LOVE-in the cards, letters, gifts, lights, gatherings, parties and in exchanges in the spirit of being human. When you look into the mirror, you will see your eye's twinkle, that silly smile will appear, and that little child's foolishness and silliness will come alive. Too many times we are great givers but poor receivers. If you can give and not fully receive, then you are out of balance. At these holiday times a lot of people feel out of balance, so take this balance exercise and see your smile light up.
Next take that smile into the world and exercise the small, random acts of kindness written above in the quote section. You/we all have that power. There are many people who are stressed out and even depressed during this time of year, so shine your light for them. Go ahead and make someone's day special, because you will be giving that gift to yourself every time you do.
Entrepreneur's Corner
As a leader in your organization your staff may be putting you on a pedestal and could be afraid of saying the wrong thing, making a bad impression or not being worthy enough. Please realize that by taking the time to smile and acknowledge someone by name, you let them know that they matter in the success in your company. (Dale Carnegie said hearing your own name is the nicest thing you can hear.) If you don't have a company party, then walk the halls and work areas and give your staff some kindness.
Pete's Perspective
My eBook and workbook are now finished!!!! Yeah!!! Discover Your True Value is now being readied for sale on its own web site. Stay tuned, it's coming soon. This has definitely been a birthing process, which I know will be easier the second time around. I want to thank my mastermind group, Cheryl, Stacey, Larry and Larry #2, my editor Andrea, my book formatter Diane and my fantastic coach Jennifer. And of course, my wife Mindy and my whole family for being there for me. Without these people I wouldn't have gotten where I am today. In looking back, I see that if I were not a great receiver in my life, I would not have the full value of all the blessings I have today. I have always been a great giver, but like most people a poor receiver. Think of it…. how can the universe be in balance if the giving and receiving are not in balance in your life?
I have done a lot of spiritual growing this year that I found was spurred on by turning 50. My work in coaching, writing and next my speaking career will increasingly reflect what I have learned, what I already know and the divine connection which I now am ready to share.
I had an interesting comment come back from one of my female readers. She said that taking the first step process, which I wrote about last month, was confusing. To recap, I said that for many people to conquer a fear, move to a dream, and take action was too much of a leap of faith-that once taken they had no safety net. The answer was to take a step into the change, one step at a time. Once on the next step you will find the next stone, step or path to follow to making the changes you want in your life. For example, if you want to become a successful writer, instead of the leap of faith of quitting your job and devoting yourself full time to writing without a safety net, you would start by getting a job with a company in the publishing business or joining a writer's group. Take one step at a time until your path becomes lit and you have a path to follow.
I'm now in the process of setting up for next year. I used to say it was goal setting but realized that the power to make it happen almost always gets bogged down as the year gets going. The best way I have found that works for many people is to ask: "What do I choose to experience in 2006?" It may be that I have chosen consciously or subconsciously to not lose weight and get in shape to see how that felt and experienced that fully in my life. Now I simply write out what I choose to experience-the events that are goals-but with feeling, colors, action words and results. (We all have free will based on how we choose to view events in our life.)
The difference between getting the results or not is your attitude. "I have to, I should, I need to, if I don't," all come from a place of scarcity. "I choose to, I will experience, I will feel, I get to" all come from a place of abundance. Choose abundance for 2006-this is my underlining theme as I choose the experiences I'm going to have.
I wish all of you, your families, friends and the people you come in contact with during the holiday season lots of Love, Peace and Prosperity for the coming year.
Hugs, Pete
